Madhubani Art( Mithila Art) -Art from an ancient city

Madhubani  (painting) art form originated from ancient Indian city Mithila.
This was originated as wall art, means paintings were drawn by the women of Mithila to decorate walls of the houses. Nowadays these are practised on silk, cotton and handmade papers. Colors are natural colors.This is painted with fingers, twine brush, nib pen, match sticks etc.
The motifs normally used in Madhubani paintings are mythological figures, Rama, Sita, Krishna, Radha etc. The motifs are also influenced by nature, so include Lotus, flowers, fish ,snakes etc.
I would love to visit Mithila once to meet the artists there. Recently I could meet a Madhubani artist in a art exhibition. Captured the images of the paintings, to share with you.

This one has painting of Rama , Sita and Laxmana  in forest. So the motifs of peacock , Sun and Deer can be seen there.

The prominent features of  this painting are bright colors and minute black lines to highlight the design. This painting is made only in black color:

Now Madhubani painting is done on clothes also. Blend of colors like Orange, Red,Green, Yellow , Blue etc highlighted with fine lines in Black color makes the painting really lively.

Collection of Batik paintings I have

Batik painting ancient type of painting which is made using wax and chemicals. These are basically from Indonesia , but Indian artists have developed their own style. This art has majorly flourished in West Bengal, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh . You can read about batik painting in this link .
I tried to learn Batik, but till now not successful. I tried it , but it was a disaster :-). You can see the batik disaster here :
Batik Painting
The painting is of 3 elephants, but in any angle these are  not looking like elephants. I'm trying to recognize it, I think its looking like lizard... !
Whatever, I will try it again. But I have a good collection of Batik painting- I have some good sarees, dress materials and paintings. These are the one I bought recently from an artisan of West Bengal:

Both are dress materials, planning to embroider on it. But sometimes getting confused, will the embroidery spoil the beauty of the painting . Can you please suggest ?

Handicapped in body, but not in spirit(IMFPA)

One day when I returned home, my son gave an envelope  he had received from the postman. But it was not mine. That was addressed to my neighbour, who had vacated the house. I called her told about this letter and also asked her for their new address to send it to her. She told not to send that , and also told me to keep that as gift from her. Gift!? I just laughed and told her what a gift !  an undelivered letter?!. Uh... She told me to see the contents in the envelope and then tell about the gift. Still I was not convinced, I thought she is making fun.
Whatever, I though gift is a gift, let me see this gift. On that envelope I saw it was written as :
Very interesting! When  I opened the envelope , I could see bunch of  greeting cards. Those are special cards, because they had beautiful paintings printed on those, very beautiful scenery  on them .

I was happy to see these cards. On the backside of the card  I saw it was written, "Mouth and Foot Painting Artists" , which raised my curiosity and the website address was also given there - www.imfpa.co.in 
.I read about each of the artists.I was astonished to know that all the paintings were drawn by disabled artists.(Sorry, I can't call them as disabled).

I called my friend again and thanked her for giving these special gift.

 I have decided to buy some cards from these artists, not for charity. They don't need charity. 
Its rightly written on the website " Handicapped in body, but not in spirit".

Introducing a Cute little artist this time

Introducing one more artist in this post. Few days ago when I visited her house at 9 AM, she was still on her bed , in deep sleep. I thought she was ill, so sleeping. When I asked her mother, she told till late night she was busy drawing and painting. I was curious to see her drawings and paintings. Her mother gave me 25-30 drawings and paintings. I was surprised to see her drawings, paintings and crafts, because I never knew that she drew so nicely.

Many more like these. The below one is very interesting, painting of the Sun with long beard.
I asked her , why she had drawn the beard to the Sun in this painting. She answered "The Sun has become very old and he doesn't shave at all " . What an imagination !:-)

By seeing her paintings and crafts , I thought, "Is it inheritance ?" (You can read another post about Inheritance here). Yes it is inheritance :-).

Ceramic work again

This Ceramic work is made on an Aluminium plate. 
You must have seen my attempts of ceramic works on pots, here. In earlier works , I've used flower and vine designs. Found this design while browsing. Thinking , on pot it might be difficult , so tried it on an Aluminium plate.

Its not come out as I expected. Hope to make a better painting next time.

Mural Painting

Its already one month, I could not post anything. Infact I could not spend time on my hobbies. All the orders which I've recieved for screen printing are pending!
Now coming back to this painting : this is a mural painting made almost 1 year back. As I've mentioned in my earlier postings I'm not trained in painting. I have learnt Mural painting from one of my friends. I used the colors whichever she had suggested. I think color combination is good.As it is painting of Rajasthani ladies applying mehandi , we used bright colors and attached small mirros on the lehenga.
I don't say its a great job, but as not a professional painter, I think its ok. What do you say?

Tanjore Painting -Saraswati- Goddess of Knowledge

This work has given me utmost satisfaction.  It took more than 15 days to finish this piece. As I don't have any training in painting, it was quite difficult also.
I was cautious to draw the eyes, because any mistake would have spoilt the painting. I practiced drawing eyes for 2 days and gave the final touch to this painting.
I have kept at the entrance of my house, so that, anybody entering will have glimpse of this painting.
